High School DxD Season 5: Release Detail & Plot Expectations (2024)

The first version of High School DxD was a light book, but over time, it turned into a pretty popular cartoon show as well. It paved the way for many of the styles seen today in the anime and light novel industries. The show hasn’t had a new season in over five years, which has made many people wonder if it will ever happen.

There’s still enough material to make a final season, but it looks like the window of time is closing faster and faster. Since then, other brands have come and gone, and some have even been completely remade. However, High School DxD is still unfinished. Still, there’s a chance that fans will finally get what they’ve been waiting for, as shown by rumours of an anime High School DxD season 5.

On February 1, 2024, Timothy Blake Donohoo made the following changes: High School DxD was a well-known cartoon show that ended more than ten years ago. Since the light books have been over for a while, many fans are now asking if the anime will ever continue. There’s been no news about a possible of High School DxD season 5. The fourth season of the cartoon High School DxD will be ten years old soon, which makes the idea of a fifth season less likely.

High School DxD Season 5 – Is It Finally Happening?

The first two seasons of High School DxD were based on the first four books of the light novels. The third season went in a slightly different way. The first part of Season 3 was a loose version of volumes 5–9, and the second part was a completely new story. The third and final part of the season covered books 6 and 7. One complaint about the previous seasons was how many changes were made, so when Passione took over production for the fourth season, the team read the 8th and 9th books in great detail to make sure they stayed true to the originals. Nine volumes of the light novels have now been turned into anime, which means that more than half of the High School DxD books have not yet been turned into anime.

The last episode of High School DxD ran in 2018, and since the source material (which mostly continued in the form of spinoffs) is now complete, only the most devoted fans really want the show to go on. There have been many reports that the fifth season of the show was meant to be made and aired in 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic meant that this had to be pushed back, and there has been no word since on a possible new release date for a new season. Since then, Passione has been pretty busy with other shows, so it might just be a matter of time. Some of these were between 2020 and 2021, though, which makes the idea that High School DxD Season 5 was pushed back because of COVID less likely.

The cast has been busy, though. Jamie Marchi, who voiced Rias, voices a character in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, which is one of today’s many popular Isekai games. It’s possible that these shows are more important to the voice actors because they are more well-known and famous right now. So, it still looks like the show is just losing steam; too much time has passed for a new season to have much drive. At this point, it’s likely that Passione or another company will start making a whole new anime series based on the books. This is pretty much always how anime from the 2000s and 2010s have been made. The series might go in this direction in the future, but it doesn’t look like High School DxD Season 5 will be it.

What’s High School DxD All About?

Kuoh Academy, which used to only have female students before it became co-ed, is where High School DxD takes place. It’s also home to a few students who have a magical secret. These students are either angels, fallen angels, or devils. A young man named Issei Hyodo is a normal student who is killed by Yuma Amano, who is really a lost angel named Raynare. Luckily, a different student named Rias uses hers to bring him back to life. The catch was that Issei was brought back to life as a devil, since Rias was a devil herself. In the same way, he’s supposed to be her loyal helper now, which makes his sexy mind happy. In the end, though, their growing bond brings with it a number of new dangers.

The show is pretty much in the harem genre, which used to be the main idea and most common type of anime before Isekai took over. Even back then, High School DxD was a lot like Iskai Fantasy and helped pave the way for that other storyline to take over. After all, the main character Issei is reborn and finds that everything has changed when he wakes up, just like the main characters in those cartoons who are reborn in similar situations. The show, on the other hand, took its raunchy humour to a level that other famous shows at the time didn’t. It stood out from other movies because of this, especially since it came before a very famous series, especially the anime version.

Ichiei Ishibumi wrote and drew the first volumes of High School DxD, which were light novels. Ishibumi had already written the books Denpachi and Slash/Dog, and he started making High School DxD two years after that. The main series had 25 books, not adding the spinoffs. The last one came out in early 2018. There were still a few spinoffs and continuations back then. Shin High School DxD was the first one. It had four volumes from 2018 to 2020. On the other hand, High School DxD DX ran from 2015 to 2022 and had seven books. A manga version came out in 2010 and ran for eight years, with 11 volumes and two spinoffs.

How to Watch the Upcoming High School DxD Season 5?

There was a lot of worry among fans when the anime company moved to Passion during season 4 of the show. To get back to the old style, many people even started a petition. The first three seasons of the cartoon were made by TNK Animation Studios.

Following the same trend as the previous versions, High School DxD Season 5 will be available on Crunchyroll. Those who know say that the High School DxD season 5 will start on AT-X in Japan and on Funimation in the US. There has been no public word from the animation companies about this, though.

Based on how past seasons have been, the anime will probably have 12 episodes, with each one running about 23 minutes. Fans may also be able to watch copies of the anime that have not been approved by the studio.

Why High School DxD’s Anime Was Both Popular and Contentious?

The anime version of High School DxD began in 2012 and was made by TNK, a company best known for its work on the School Days adaptation. They made the first three seasons of the show, but Passione wanted the fourth season. Since then, that business has worked on new seasons of the cartoon show Higurashi and will soon start work on a new version of Spice and Wolf.

Many people said that the dub of these seasons made the show much less serious. They were first localised by Funimation and then only available on the Crunchyroll streaming service. Of course, some people didn’t like how racy the show’s humour was, especially when it came to banning. During its broadcast, High School DxD was already shown in two forms. The version shown on the Japanese station AT-X was the only one that wasn’t locked down.

There was a lot of fanservice on the show, which made it illegal in New Zealand because “it encourages and legitimises the pursuit of young persons as viable adult sexual partners.” It wasn’t changed to R16 until 2022. While there were some problems with the material, High School DxD still did very well. The first light novels were huge hits, and the English translations of the manga were also big hits in the New York Times. Its anime version got mixed reviews because the story wasn’t as tightly plotted, but it still had some good points. Animation and music were two of the most interesting parts of the show. They made it a pleasure to watch. Many fans are confused about why .High School DxD Season 5 hasn’t been made yet, since the fourth season was so popular and can still be bought at major stores.
