Can you smell it? That hot, fresh loaf of bread as you pull it out of the oven? That has got to be one of the best smells in the world!

With a Bread Machine, you can get all the smells and loaves of bread without all of the work.

The magic of a bread machine truly is amazing because you can make so much more than just a loaf of bread. You can make rolls, sticks, scones, bagels and so much more!

The bread machine we use is this Oster 2-Pound Expressbake Bread Machine and I love it!

Our Baking Essential List:

  • For baking casseroles, we use Glass Baking Dishes. I especially like the dishes with lids so leftovers can be transferred straight to the fridge.
  • Silicone Kitchenware is my favorite because they don't scratch my cookware and are super easy to clean!
  • To prepare all of those ingredients a Glass Cutting Board is a must. We even keep ours on our counter at all times.
  • This Knife Set will also become your favorite! They cut beautifully and with the hollow design of the knife, food doesn't stick to the blade.

I decided to get rid of my new bread machine because I hated the taste and texture of the few bread recipes I tried out... from the little recipe book that came with the bread machine. Now, I will try some of your recipes before I decide whether or not to trash it. The breads I made were soooo bad (many of them would never rise properly either) that I did not feel right trying to donate it. Maybe there is something wrong with the machine. Your recipes will help me find out. Thank you for sharing!

You are welcome! Make sure that you are using good yeast. Old yeast will keep your bread from rising properly and that will effect the taste. I hope you find recipes that work well for you!

FAQs

What else can you cook in a bread maker? ›

In two to three hours you will have freshly baked bread. But this countertop appliance can also make a lot more than just loaves of bread, from pizza dough, cinnamon rolls, hamburger and hot dog buns, and even doughnuts.

Can you make yogurt in a bread machine? ›

But, in fact, it is very possible and very simple and your bread maker will make it even simpler for you. You only need whole milk and a full fat Greek yogurt only for the first time because next time you will use your own homemade yogurt to trigger the fermentation.

What can a breadmaker do? ›

Bread makers are an all-in-one appliance. To make bread, add your ingredients and select the program for your recipe; from there, the machine will mix, knead, proof and bake the bread. It's really that simple. You can also use a bread machine for more specific tasks or portions of your favorite bread recipe.

What is the disadvantage of bread maker? ›

Bread Machine Drawbacks

Harder to create different shaped breads (i.e. long baguettes). Upfront cost of a bread machine. Homemade bread usually goes stale faster than store packaged brands (because store breads often contain chemical preservatives). Inability to make very large bread sizes.

Is it cheaper to use a bread maker or buy bread? ›

In a nutshell, if you're buying basic, cheap sandwich bread, it's probably cheaper than you can make it at home. But if you compare two loaves similar to what you could make at home — one made with high-quality ingredients as opposed to one made with lesser quality ingredients — home baking becomes much cheaper.

What happens if you use regular yeast in a bread machine? ›

Bread machine yeast and rapid-rise yeast are specially formulated for the bread machine and become active more quickly than active dry yeast. You can use active dry yeast in your bread machine, but it should be dissolved in water before being used.

Can I use milk instead of water in bread machine? ›

You will need a bit more milk than the amount of water required (because of the milk solids). The dough will be softer, the crumb less open. You will have to bake it at lower temperatures than a lean bread. In other words, your bread will be more like a sandwich bread.

Why is bread flour better for bread machines? ›

Be sure to use a flour made from hard wheat, which means it's high in protein, and therefore high in gluten. The gluten combines with water to form the elastic strands that trap carbon dioxide given off by yeast, allowing bread to rise.

Why are bread makers no longer popular? ›

In a 2017 article for TASTE, Tatiana Bautista argued that a widespread fear of carbs during the late '90s and early '00s led to the bread machine's demise. The gluten-free movement probably didn't help either. But things are changing, and bread machines are becoming relevant once again.

What is the difference between a bread maker and a bread machine? ›

VERSATILITY: Your bread maker will be able to create dough only-this allows you to shape your finished bread into buns, braids, etc. Some bread makers also have a “preserves” function where you can make jam. These are the only two things you can really do with a bread machine though.

Is it worth buying a bread maker? ›

Time saved: Baking bread can be an enjoyable experience, but if you can't spare the hours to manually knead, prove and mix your dough each time, a breadmaker can significantly speed up the process.

Does a bread maker only make bread? ›

You can also use bread machines to make rolls, pizza dough, pretzels, but you'll just be using the bread machine to make the dough and you'll do the rest in your oven.

Why use a bread maker instead of an oven? ›

Homemade bread can be a tiresome and long process and, in some cases, not always successful. A bread machine alleviates the stress of regular baking, allowing you to place all the ingredients into the appliance at one time and return after a few hours to a freshly baked loaf.
